Irons: The big debate
Do you prefer the look of a blade or a game-improvement iron? For many of us, the iron we WANT to put in the bag is different from the one that we NEED to play better golf.
Equipment
When you’re picking out a new set of irons, you’re choosing the majority of your clubs in one fell swoop. It’s a big old decision that will definitely have an effect on your scores, so it’s important we get the right ones in your bag. And yes, that’s we as in us and you together. But we’re here to look at the best irons on the market, and there’s only one place to start... Titleist T-Series.
Arguably the most famous trait of Titleist irons is how stunning they look. Whether they’re sitting on the shelf or behind the golf ball, the T-Series irons look beautiful. But the other key characteristic we all know Titleist for is the feel, and that’s the very next thing you notice. The second you make contact with the ball, it’s like you’re swinging through air (in the best possible way).
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Right? Sure, but if – like Titleist – you’re a perfectionist, why not strive to be even better? This strive is what led Titleist to D18 Tungsten. This material, which performs so well and so reliably that it’s used in aerospace engineering, allows Titleist to get ultra-precise with the centre of gravity positioning. That CG can then be optimised to give you the best, most accurate & forgiving launch in each and every iron.
Actually, while we’re on the topic of launch, it’s also worth discussing the way these irons help you generate really easy distance. The Max Impact technology – a polymer core hidden inside – gives you really effective energy transfer at impact, while the thin face also adds extra speed & distance. This varies across the models but there’s never any compromising on performance. Speaking of different models, let’s take a look at what’s actually available.
We’re looking at no less than five variations here. This goes from T400 down to T100 but with the added bonus of the T100-S. That might all sound pretty similar, but each one boasts its own very distinctive stand-out feature. T400 is all about forgiveness and distance so that developing golfers can enjoy playing and keep improving. The T300 follows a similar line, although it’s ideal for golfers slightly further along the improvement process.
We then move into the T200, which becomes much more compact and is a ‘Tour-ready’ iron with plenty of distance. the T100 is Titleist’s #1 iron model on Tour because it’s all about precision and workability; letting you shape the ball with supreme accuracy if you’re an elite player. Finally, the T100-S bridges the gap between T100 & T200 by balancing the T100 precision with T200 distance. A lethal combination.
